Bubble Solution Refill Guide — Why Your Bubble Gun Is Only Half the Story

Bubble Solution Refill Guide — Why Your Bubble Gun Is Only Half the Story

A bubble gun without good solution is like a printer without ink. It looks fine on the shelf, but the customer comes back disappointed.

We learned this the hard way. Early on, we’d ship bubble guns and assume buyers would figure out the liquid part themselves. They didn’t. Half of them came back asking “why are the bubbles so small?” or “why does it stop after 30 seconds?”

So here’s the deal on bubble solution — from someone who’s mixed a lot of it.

Not all bubble liquid is created equal

The stuff you buy at the dollar store is basically watered-down dish soap. It works for maybe 5 minutes and then the bubbles get thin and pop instantly.

What actually makes good bubble solution comes down to three things:

Surfactant quality. This is the stuff that reduces water surface tension so bubbles can form. Cheap surfactants = weak bubbles. We use a specific blend that took a while to get right.

Concentration ratio. Most retail bubble solutions are pre-diluted to save on shipping weight. Sounds smart until you realize you’re paying to ship water. Our wholesale bubble solution is concentrated — add water yourself and get way more volume for the same shipping cost.

Additives matter. Glycerin or similar polymers make bubbles last longer and float higher. Skip this and your bubbles pop the second they leave the wand. Nobody wants that.

How much solution do you actually need?

Rough numbers from our customers:

A single bubble gun at a birthday party goes through about 30-50ml of solution per hour of play. Sounds like nothing until you have 20 kids with 20 guns.

One of our customers runs carnival booths. He goes through about 5 liters of concentrated solution per weekend. He orders it by the gallon and mixes it on site.

If you’re stocking a retail shelf, the 500ml refill bottles sell best. If you’re running events, buy the 5L concentrate. Tell us your use case and we’ll tell you what makes sense.

Can you make it yourself?

Sure — water, dish soap, and a bit of glycerin. It works in a pinch. But it won’t match the bubble size or longevity of a proper formula, and it definitely won’t be non-toxic certified for kids.

For resellers, DIY isn’t worth the hassle. Customers notice the difference. Bad solution leads to bad reviews, and bad reviews kill the product.

Storage tips

Concentrated solution lasts about 12 months sealed. Once diluted, use it within a month. Keep it out of direct sunlight and don’t let it freeze — both will mess with the surfactant.

We ship worldwide. Solution is heavy so freight matters, but the concentrated version keeps the weight down. Most buyers bundle solution with their bubble gun orders — the shipping math works out better that way.
