Most buyers who ask about buying direct from China are really asking two questions: is it cheaper, and is it worth the trouble. The answers depend on something that is rarely spelled out — whether you are actually buying from a factory.
Factory, trading company, or reseller
A factory makes the product. A trading company buys from factories and sells on. Both are legitimate, and both have a place, but they behave differently.
A trading company carries a wider range, ships smaller quantities more easily, and can put together a mixed order across several factories. It also adds a margin, controls the relationship with the maker, and will not always be able to answer a detailed question about the mould or the material.
A factory knows the product, can change it, and can tell you why something failed on the last run. It usually has a narrower range and a higher minimum, because it makes things rather than collects them.
Ask directly, and ask something only a maker would know: what the material is, what happens if you want the mould changed, how many pieces come off one production run. A trader will answer around the question; a factory will answer it.
The middlemen you can cut, and the ones you cannot
The margin between a factory and a local distributor is real and is what most buyers are chasing. Removing it usually works.
What does not disappear when you go direct is the cost of everything the importer used to do: the freight, the duty, the documentation, the inspection, and the risk that a container arrives wrong. Going direct does not remove those costs, it moves them to you. Budget for them before you compare prices.
What a direct order actually involves
An enquiry, a quotation, a sample. A deposit, a production run, a balance against the documents. A forwarder who takes the goods from our door to yours, and a broker who clears them at destination.
None of that is difficult, and all of it has to be done by somebody. The buyers who do well direct are the ones who accept that the work moved to them rather than assuming it vanished.
How to start without taking a large risk
Order a sample first and judge the product, not the price list. Then place a first order small enough that being wrong would not hurt, across several designs rather than one, so the market tells you what to reorder.
Our minimum is 5 pieces per design and designs mix freely in one order, which is designed for exactly that first step. We are the manufacturer, not a trading company, which is why we can run a minimum that low. See the range under bubble guns, bubble wands and water guns. WhatsApp: +86 173 4881 6397.
