How to Source Toys from Yiwu for Russia and Central Asia

From Moscow to Dushanbe, the trade in toys runs through one city. Yiwu is where the goods are bought, and the buyers who do it well are not the ones who find the cheapest price — they are the ones who get the documentation and the logistics right.

We are a manufacturer in Yiwu. This is what buying here looks like from our side of the desk, for buyers in Russia and Central Asia.

What we make, and how it is bought

Bubble guns, bubble wands, water guns, bubble solution, squishy toys. The minimum is 5 pieces per design, and designs mix freely in one order — so a first order can be a dozen different items rather than a container of one.

That matters more in this region than in most. Retail here rewards a wide range on a counter: a customer walks past ten shapes and picks one, and a shop that carries only two has nothing for the other eight.

The certification question

For Russia and Kazakhstan, toys fall under the Eurasian Economic Union rules, and the requirement is specific: TR CU 008/2011, under which conformity is demonstrated by an EAC Certificate of Conformity rather than a declaration. The toy carries the EAC mark, and the marking and documentation have to be in Russian.

If the toy is electric — every motorised bubble gun is — a second regulation usually applies as well, TR CU 004/2011 on low-voltage equipment, which in practice means two certification procedures rather than one.

Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and the others each have their own arrangements. Do not assume a Russian certificate covers a shipment to Tashkent; ask your broker in the destination country before you order.

We are a Chinese manufacturer. We cannot issue an EAC certificate, and any supplier who tells you they can is describing something else. What we can do is give your certification body accurate product data and whatever test reports exist for the model, along with the commercial documents for the shipment.

Logistics

Sea freight through the Russian Far East and rail through Kazakhstan are the two routes buyers in this region use most, with road and rail combinations inland. Your forwarder will price the route; what we can do is make sure the cartons are right.

Ask for carton dimensions, pieces per carton and gross weight with any quotation. Freight for this region is a large part of the landed cost, and the product that looks cheapest per unit is often not the cheapest once the carton size is taken into account.

Consolidation is worth using. If you are buying from several suppliers in Yiwu, the goods can be brought together and shipped as one consignment, one set of documents, one freight bill.

What we need from you to quote

The products or designs, the quantity, the destination city or port, and whether you need standard or custom packaging. With that we can come back with pricing, carton figures and production time.

If you are ready to start, ask for samples first and test them with solution in the unit. The seal is what fails on a cheap bubble gun, and it fails in a way that is invisible in a photograph. See the range under bubble guns, bubble wands and water guns. WhatsApp: +86 173 4881 6397.
