Bubble wands are the cheapest thing in a bubble toy order and the easiest to get wrong. Sold as a plain plastic stick, they compete on price. Sold as a shape, they compete on nothing — a child picks the donut over the stick every time.
That is the whole case for a shape range, and it is why we mould more shapes than we do mechanisms.
What is in the range
Food shapes sell hardest: donut, cake, ice cream, fruit in four designs, and the fries, burger and popcorn set.
Animals carry the party and wedding market: duck, capybara, dinosaur, and rose for the occasions where a dinosaur will not do. There is a mushroom for the fairy-tale end of the shelf and a six-design Christmas series for seasonal ordering.
Then the sizes: mini cartoon wands that go out as promotional giveaways, and a 37cm giant wand that makes bubbles big enough to change how a garden party photographs.
How shape ranges are sold
Not as single designs. A shop wants a mixed assortment on a counter, because a child choosing between four shapes is a child who takes longer to leave and often takes two. Ask how the assortment is configured per carton — some ranges ship as four designs in fixed proportions, others let you weight the mix toward your best seller.
That proportion matters. If two of the four designs account for most of your reorders, a fixed 25% split will leave you long on the slow ones. Get it in writing before the run is packed.
What fails on a bubble wand
Three things, in this order. The wand ring, which is where the film of solution forms and the part that stops working if the moulding has a burr. The seal at the reservoir, which is what turns a wand into a leaking bag. And the solution capacity, which decides whether a wand lasts a party or twenty minutes.
All three are visible on a sample with solution in it. Fill one, blow it for ten minutes, and leave it on its side overnight. That test costs you nothing and answers the only questions your customers will ask.
Ordering
Minimum is 5 pieces per design and designs mix in one order, so a first order can cover one of each shape and build from there. Custom colours and logo printing are available on most shapes, with the usual effect on minimums — printed production needs a run that covers the setup.
